My aunt and uncle flew out of Vegas 2 days before we did on Wednesday, so we were left to explore the town all on our own. Deciding where to eat was the hardest part, there are so many options! We really wanted to steer clear of chain-like restaurants, with the exception of places like In-N-Out and others that aren’t close to where we live. After watching the Vegas attractions channel on our hotel room TV, we decided on Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay for dinner, which also happened to be a short walk next door from our hotel. Sold! We dreaded getting the rental car from the valet, we ended up walking more than driving even after we got our rental, lol.
Burger Bar seemed promising, but would they live up to the standards advertised in their commercial?
An emphatic YES!
I ordered the turkey burger on ciabatta with Swiss cheese and homemade dijon mustard and sweet potato fries
Dustin ordered the Kobe beef burger on a plain bun with blue cheese and zucchini fries
LOVED the zucchini fries! That was the first time I ever had them. Yum! I wasn’t crazy about the sweet potato fries because, well, they were fried. Duh! lol I actually prefer sweet potato fries when they’re baked. I think frying them takes away from their awesomeness a little too much. My turkey burger was FANTASTIC, though!! You can tell how much I hated it.
Dustin shared a bite of his Kobe beef burger with me. Oh. my. GAWD. It was amazing! Even Dustin said it was the best burger he has ever had. It tasted like very tender, flavorful steak, but in burger form. Dustin’s not much of a burger person, but he totally loved it.
We were pretty full, but how can you pass up a Nutella milkshake?!
Yeah, our thoughts exactly! We had to have just a little taste. Nutella is one of the greatest creations on earth, we couldn’t just snub it, ya know? hehe It was heavenly, as you can imagine. Very rich, so just a couple of sips was enough to tingle our taste buds. Totally worth indulging in, even when you are long past full.
They have so many unique and interesting burger + fry combos, including salmon burgers and vegan burgers, it was awfully hard to decide. I almost got the beef burger with lobster and asparagus, but what if I didn’t like it? I went with a safe choice and, it was a good one. We’ll definitely revisit this burger oasis in the desert if we should ever make our way back to Vegas. If you’re in the area and love a great burger, you’ll love this place.
We finished the night off with four $70 ginger ales. No, that’s not a typo. We lost $270 bucks playing poker at Excalibur and had 4 complimentary ginger ales while we played, so with tips they came out to about $70 each, LOL. And they weren’t even that good! Kind of flat and small, only about 4 oz. ha! We had fun, though. Kind of. Winning is much funner.
More of our Vegas trip to come! Stay tuned!
