Bad Lighting

by j3nn on February 18, 2011

I thought our house has bad lighting after dark, but compared to dinner at Charlie Brown’s last night, our house is like high noon in the Sahara desert! We had to go to Target, so we found ourselves hungry and at the mercy of what Middletown has to offer. I chose Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse because they have the most amazing salad bar. Yeah, salad bars can be hit or miss, but whatever. I like them! The food bars at Whole Foods aren’t much better really , they’re just more money! lol (And too far away for me to break the piggy bank for on a regular basis  )

I ordered the unlimited salad bar for my dinner. It had everything I needed. Of course they tried to up-sell a bowl of sodium soup to accompany my unlimited salad bar, but, uh, no thanks! I’d rather commit sodium-suicide on something a little better than mystery soup.

I piled my (small) plate as high as I could, starting with a layer of romaine + fresh baby spinach…

Taken with HTC cell phone. These are officially the worst pictures I have ever published on my blog. And what you see is actually a huge improvement courtesy of Photoshop auto levels! heh

The salad itself was infinitely better than the pics. I had a little scoop of everything: black beans, corn salsa, jalapenos, beets, sweet peas, cottage cheese, some kind of potato salad, a few pieces of pasta, green bell peppers, olives, red onions, bacon bits, chopped eggs, pickles, three-bean salad, dried cranberries, shredded carrots, white bean salad, broccoli, grape tomatoes, and… I think that’s it. Plus a drizzle of some kind of balsamic dressing and 3 small pieces of bread.

Dustin did a good job loading up on the bread. There was no room on my plate. Oh, and he got some hummus, which I totally missed. Darn. He also ordered prime rib and BBQ ribs. I had 2 of his ribs and a few bites of the prime rib. Tasty, but glad I didn’t order a separate entree. I couldn’t even finish my salad. I left about half of it. Really liked it, though! I love a little bit of everything on a salad. SO YUM! One day I’m going to have a salad bar in my kitchen, lol. That would be awesome. :D

After dinner, we stopped by Hannaford for a few things. I was running low on leafy greens at home, so I replenished my stock. Probably also why I opted for a salad bar dinner, lol. I get all kinds of anxious when the veggie supply is dwindling! haha

My shopping cart:

Arugula underneath the baby spinach. Paper towels were on sale (not really, they’re smallish rolls) and another box of Mary’s Gone Crackers may have leaped into my cart. ;) Hannaford didn’t have the caraway variety in their devoted gluten-free aisle, just original or herbs. :( Boo! Wanted the caraway, but original is soooooooo gooooooooood tooooooo! :)

I had to stop my intermittent fast at 16 hours yesterday; I needed to drink some OJ. The new (higher dose) diuretic RX my doc gave me wasn’t going so well. I was getting spasms and such, so I knew I needed some potassium, calcium, etc. immediately. I had a cup of OJ and ate a piece of Swiss cheese. I learned my lesson the hard way last summer that I need to stay hydrated and keep my electrolytes balanced. Having unbalanced electrolytes is scary and dangerous, especially if you run the risk of heat exhaustion in warm weather or exertion.

Today, we’re going out to dinner with my cousin and going to the craft store to buy some material for the light box that Dustin is building for me!!! :o Cannot wait for it to be done! It’s going to help so much with food photos. I’ll take pics of it when it’s done and show you how he did it. *excited* :D

Questions: What are your plans for the weekend? Is your produce stash fluffy?

I’ve never been to Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse but I hear it’s so yummy. Can’t wait for the weekend-going to see my nephew for his 2 year old birthday party!

I actually loved having the salad bar – even when we go to Fogo de Chao where you get all you can eat meat. The last time we went my husband was like “don’t fill up on $50 worth of salad – get some meat!”

Let us know how the light box works – I have AWFUL night time lighting in my house. :(

Too funny on the soup, true restaurants usually use way to much salt. Can’t wait to see the light box. Weekend plans include a long run, then a long massage, dinner out with my sisters and a Whole Foods trip. And maybe a little clothes shopping. :-) Happy Friday!

So sorry about the dehydration, electro imbalance, etc issues…dear god my friend! Always something, isnt it!

I take a product called Natural Calm by Peter Gillham. It is an ABSORB-ABLE magnesium (and you can get it + calcium, too). It’s the best. We are ALL so mag-depleted from stress, toxins, diets, our cycles, etc and this is a great mag/calc supplement, not like some other crap i read about.

Email me for more info if you want it.

Can dustin build me a lightbox, too?

“These are officially the worst pictures I have ever published on my blog. “–you should see some of the crap that passes for blog posts on some blogs i read then :) you have nothing to worry about!

That salad looks yummy! It’s so funny that steakhouses often have amazing salad bars- but good for me bc I’m a vegetarian!
