My Mom’s 25th Birthday

by j3nn on February 28, 2011

Yes, can you believe it?! My mom turned 52 25 this month! Miraculous considering I just turned 31 back in December. ;)

On Friday, we had a dinner party to celebrate her birthday with friends and family.

Cousin Tricia, friend Shanova

Tricia, Aunt Gina, Dustin

Almost famous! I swear we look like the DVD cover for a really cheesy sitcom. LOL

We kept the menu simple, but delicious. As always!

Dustin did the veggie “platter.” I think he put out 5 pieces of celery. You’d think he was catering a gerbil banquet. People, Dustin, people! Need more than 2 stalks of celery. We’ll work on that for next time. haha

Store-bought veggie dip. Yeah, too busy to make it from scratch. Was delish! Don’t judge. I channel my inner Sandra Lee whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Deviled eggs. Not enough devil! More paprika, please. :P

Pinwheels: Lower sodium Boar’s Head ham + Swiss cheese + baby spinach and Boar’s Head Buffalo chicken and bleu cheese with splashes of Frank’s Red Hot

Dinner: garden salad, pizza lasagna (pepperoni, ham, sausage), Italian bread from bakery

My messy plate

My humble salad. I would have preferred to just eat from the salad bowl, but I don’t think my guests would appreciate my salad obsession.

Cake time!! From our favorite bakery: Deising’s in Kingston.

Wedding-quality cake through and through! This one had vanilla and chocolate cake with strawberry mousse and vanilla custard with whipped cream icing. AMAZING! Everyone agreed that this was the best one thus far. We travel an hour to pick up these cakes, but Shanova confessed to picking up a Spider Man cake for her son’s birthday a few months ago—in Long Island! 3 hours away! haha, LOVE HER! We both want to get Cake Boss cakes for our next birthdays. I’m so down! ;)

We had a blast at the party. SO. MUCH. FOOD! Aaaahhhh!!! Dustin and I bought my mom one of those Mint robot vacuums from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. I saw it doing its thang this morning, pretty cool, but I think my mom set it up wrong; she put the mop pad on to sweep. Too funny. We’ll get it working properly!

I’ve had a crazy weekend. My eating was completely and utterly out-of-control, as were my stress levels. More on that tomorrow! I need to go chill for awhile and get some rest. :)

Question: Do you or would you drive hours to pick up an extraordinary cake?

The cake looks wonderful! Both the inside (yum!) and the outside decorations (beautiful!)

Your mom is my hubs age. He robbed the cradle with me, and is a couple decades older that me. Weird to think your mom and my hubs are the same age.

And the pic of you in the red shirt…you look beautiful. More pics, please, of your gorg face :)

I would drive *blank* amount of hours if it meant to having one of the best cakes for a celebration! I’m down with that. ;)

If you try Cake Boss cakes.. you must get some cannoli to go with it. ;)

Happy belated birthday to your mom! Looks like a great time was had by all. And I definitely got a kick out of the lack of celery you pointed out :P
That cake is beautiful!! I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere with a “real” cake (as in – professionally done) which is probably why it’s so easy for me to say I’m not a “cake person”! haha. I just need a real cake is my problem :P
