Yesterday, we went to Middletown to do food shopping for Dustin’s party. We stopped at Party City first, which was a huge mistake. I really don’t like that store. Their items are WAY overpriced and they’re not even THAT nice! 98% of it is total crap. I bought 4 disposal tin trays and left. I couldn’t justify spending that kind of money on substandard merchandise. I was not impressed at all. And the cashier was a… not a nice person. No hello or how are you, just “Phone number?” and then, “Email?”
Yeah, that stores sucks. They can scratch me off of their returning customer list.
It was around 5:00pm and all I had to eat all day was a small piece of sourdough bread and a peach. Clearly the breakfast of champions. So, we were pretty hungry. We decided to swing over to Newburgh and hit up Union Square Restaurant. Dustin LOVES their pizza and it is his birthday week—or so he keeps reminding me, lol.
Dustin had pizza, of course, and I had the grilled Buffalo chicken salad with bacon crumbles, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese dressing.
I apologize for this horrendous cell phone pic. I didn’t have my camera with me.
It was SO delicious! I ate almost all of it, leaving just a trace of lettuce behind. Dustin shared a sliver of his pizza with me—so generous!
I took half of the cheese off of it. Greasy cheese is not my friend. Shortly after eating my tummy was not happy AT ALL. By the time we got home I was feeling pretty yucky.
After we ate, I went to Michael’s (the craft store) to find wooden skewers for the fruit kebobs I’m making. I couldn’t find anything that was the right size. I found lollipop sticks, so I bought them, but I’m going to look for wooden skewers today in other stores.
We left Newburgh and headed west back to Middletown. We stopped at Hannaford, where I was shocked by the produce prices. Two pounds of grapes = $8! Not even organic. A tiny watermelon = $6. One broccoli crown = $2.49!!!
Everything was SUPER expensive, yet not really worth it. I was reluctant to buy anything and decided to see if I could find better deals. So, I bought just a few things and I’ll get the rest today. Grocery prices are going up, up, UP, my friends. Ugh. I’ll get into this more later.
We have to go pick up the cake, do more shopping, and actually prepare the food, but I haven’t even showered yet and it’s already 10:00am, lol. Loading new songs on my iPod and doing a blog update sounded way better at the moment. It is CHILLY out! Brrr. I’ll be wishing for this weather a few weeks from now. One extreme to the next!
Be back later!!

That salad looks amazing… That be a good one to recreate at home!
I haven’t really noticed expensive grocery prices. I’ve actually been picking up some awesome deals at Kroger here in Augusta, GA. They do a lot of manager specials and I pick up some great prices on organic produce and the healthy food stuff that they separate in their own area.

“Grocery prices are going up, up, UP, my friends. ”
Yes, they are. Can’t wait for your more detailed, ahem, thoughts on that.
Have a great day. My chaos is in full effect!

Agreed. In my neighborhood, “fancier”/seasonal organic produce like asparagus = $8.99/lb; cherries = $9.99/lb. AKA, nobody buys it. Kale and peaches are almost $4 a small-ish bunch and lb., respectively. Potatoes have gone up lots and even apples ain’t free. Thankfully, bananas and carrots are still very cheap!
Excellent post. I have been looking for an interesting new salad dish for a while, what you have here looks delicious.
Thanks
Darren
I hope that everything goes off without a hitch! Those prices are very, very obnoxious… Yikes!

The price of food is getting ridiculously high. Can’t wait for the post on that. I paid $8 for a medium-sized watermelon, only to find it was close to going off! Argh. Just wanted to tell you I love your blog. I have been reading for a couple of years now and it is one of my absolute favorites!
