My birthday was on 12-12-12 but we didn’t officially celebrate until yesterday when we had our Christmas/birthday bash. After a four course meal, there simply wasn’t room for the fifth, so the cake part was skipped.
Remember the present from Dustin I accidentally opened before my birthday? This is it!
Sony NEX-5r camera
What’s special about this is that it takes DSLR-quality pictures but comes in at half the size and weight of a traditional DSLR camera.
I love my Canon Rebel xsi DSLR camera, but my biggest complaint when I’m on the go is that it is heavy and bulky. Which translates to me not wanting to take it everywhere.
The Sony NEX-5r feels and looks like a typical point-and-shoot digital camera, but with a much bigger lens. This one came with the stock zoom lens, but perhaps Santa will bring me a macro lens.
It’s really weird to me not looking through the tiny window anymore and once again looking at a full-screen preview. The touch panel is an added bonus!
I’m very, very excited about using it.
To further enhance my food photography endeavors, I received this Lowel EGO digital image light from my mom!
Not quite as bright as the digital image light but just as awesome, my grandma gave me two Pink Himalayan salt lamps!
I’m crazy about pink Himalayan salt. It’s so tasty AND makes a pretty lamp.
What a fantastic gift!
Also from Grandma: Organic hair products
Black garlic and organic Hawaiian honey from Aunt Gina and Uncle Brian. Never heard of black garlic before!
This Hawaiian honey sounds so good!! Can’t wait to try it.
And I got a new Salter food scale from Dustin.
I received several other fabulous gifts as well. I love and appreciate them all.
Sadly, I was too busy and tired to take any party pictures. I spent nearly 24 hours straight cooking and cleaning and shopping. I barely had time to sleep, so I was running on a 90-minute nap and really feeling the crash after we ate. The food was oh so yummy. We had assorted appetizers and French onion soup with croutons and melted Gruyere cheese, salad and fresh bakery bread, and baked ziti—my favorite part of any celebration: The food!!!
I feel like Christmas is over but it’s still a few days away! Then New Year’s!
Hopefully I’ll get some rest over the next few days. Starting with a movie by Christmas tree lights right now. And maybeeeee a sliver of birthday cake.

Love the kitchen scale and nice camera! What a nice lens for a P & S!
I actually bought a Lowell Ego last fall – maybe 15-18 mos ago and I rarely use it. Need to dust it off! You’ll have to LMK how you like yours.
And again, Happy Bday!
Thanks! I think the lens is what makes it take SLR-quality photos. Technology hasn’t figured out how to do SLR photos without them yet. I don’t think this is a p+s, it just looks like one. it’s pretty much a DSLR as far as quality and performance goes.

Oh P.S. I just doublechecked, I bought the one you linked to! The digital image light – when I clicked on it, it told me I bought it in April 2011. So there ya go

Sounds like you had a great birthday!
I know what you mean about the Rebel feeling big and bulky to carry everywhere, it’s one of the main reasons I don’t take mine with me as much as I should.

happy birthday, girl! and happy holidays too!
I have two of those Lowel Egos – one I keep as a table top and one I attached the other to a tripod. I of course prefer natural light, but… sometimes here in Portland I need the Ego
salt lamps are my favorite – I always had them at the spa – enjoy!

This post posted at this web site is actually pleasant.
